The Banks is tightening its weekend rules. Starting Friday, April 25th, the Public Plaza (the stretch between Great American Ball Park to Walnut Street/Jefferson Social) will be restricted to guests 21 and older from 10PM to 2AM every Friday and Saturday night.

Officials say the new policy is meant “to provide a safer, more controlled environment” during high-traffic hours. Expect ID checkpoints, increased security, and additional staff as part of the rollout.

The change comes less than a week after a shooting on East Freedom Way left one person injured. No suspects have been identified, and police have released limited information about the incident.

City leaders, including Mayor Aftab Pureval and Police Chief Teresa Theetge, are expected to speak about the new policy during a press conference Friday morning.

Those under 21 can still visit The Banks during the day, and exceptions will be made for Reds games or stadium events that run late, as long as minors are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The new 21+ policy will remain in effect through the summer and will be evaluated regularly by city officials and stakeholders.
