Filmmaker and editorial photographer Tailiah Breon is not only making waves in the entertainment industry but also breaking barriers with her unconventional path to success.

With her seventh directorial project for Lifetime, Not My Family: The Monique Smith Story, premiering on April 12th, Tailiah opened up about the power of storytelling, her faith-driven career, and how she’s reshaping the hustle culture many of us live by.

For Tailiah, The Monique Smith Story represented an opportunity to explore themes that resonate deeply with humanity—persistence, resilience, and transformation. “The story itself will blow people away,” she shared. “It focuses on what persistence can afford you when life doesn’t go the way you want and how you can recreate the narrative on the other side of it. One way or another, we’ve all been there.”

But it wasn’t just the emotional depth of the story that captivated her. From a career standpoint, Tailiah viewed this project as a way to explore darker, more uncomfortable truths and shine a light on overcoming adversity. “I had been waiting for something like this as an artist,” she said, describing the chance to dig deeply into complex themes.
