Questions that need answers… Who is Dolly?
Big Boy Restaurant Group is reviving two former Frisch’s locations in Greater Cincinnati under a new name, Dolly’s Burgers and Shakes, as the battle over the “Big Boy” brand continues.
The first Dolly’s opened Monday in Blue Ash at 9070 Plainfield Road, followed by a second location in Anderson Township at 7706 Beechmont Ave. on Tuesday. While the new name pays homage to the Big Boy mascot’s comic book girlfriend— the menu will feel familiar, featuring the signature burgers, sauces, and comfort food Big Boy is known for.
Big Boy Restaurant Group CEO Tamer Afr says:
“Dolly’s will serve up all of the familiar flavors its parent company is known for when the restaurant chain opens its doors and drive-through windows to guests in Blue Ash and Anderson Township… Our signature sauces and ice cream are made in our commissary, and then our local restaurant cooks freshly prepare our menu items for guests’ orders. But rest assured — contrary to what you may have heard, we know that the white sauce is the right sauce for our Signature Burgers in Cincinnati.”

The openings come after a lawsuit filed by Frisch’s in February, accusing Big Boy of infringing on its trademark territory in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee. Frisch’s, which once operated more than 80 locations, has seen its footprint shrink dramatically after a lease dispute led to the closure of over 60 restaurants.
Dolly’s branding is still in production, but the restaurants are moving forward with service. Alongside its regular menu, Dolly’s will offer a breakfast bar on weekday mornings and a Friday seafood buffet through Easter.
As the legal battle unfolds, Big Boy is committed to expanding its presence in the region. For now, Cincinnati foodies can experience Dolly’s in all her glory.
