The Cincinnati Bengals didn’t reach the NFL Playoffs, but history was made this season.

Bengals star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase etched his name into the history books by achieving one of the NFL’s rarest and most prestigious milestones—the receiving Triple Crown. With 127 catches for 1,708 yards and 17 Receiving touchdowns., Chase joined Don Hutson (who did it FIVE TIMES!) Jerry Rice (1990), Sterling Sharpe (1992), Steve Smith Sr. (2005), and Cooper Kupp (2021) as the only wide receivers in the Super Bowl era to reach this remarkable feat.

Chase extended his league with 10 catches for 96 yards and a touchdown in a 19-17 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday (January 4th). Chase is also the youngest to reach this accomplishment in the Super Bowl era and since Hutson in 1936 at 23 years old. Chase also set new Bengals franchise records for receptions and yards and tied Bengals legend Carl Pickens‘ receiving touchdown output.

The start of the 2024-25 NFL season started rocky for Chase as he pushed for a contract extension. Now with this record-breaking year, as Fat Joe would say,” Yesterday’s Price is not Today’s Price.” Now will the notoriously frugal Bengals be willing to hand Chase a contract that could quite possibly be the richest non-quarterback contract in NFL History?

Currently, former LSU Tigers teammate and Minnesota Vikings Wide Receiver Justin Jefferson holds that mark with a 4-year contract worth $140 million, with an average annual value of $35 million, signed in June 2024.
