The Cincinnati Bengals have bolstered their running back depth by striking a deal with the Chicago Bears, acquiring former starter Khalil Herbert in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round pick. During his time with the Bears, Herbert played in 47 games, amassing 1,791 rushing yards on 372 carries, with an impressive average of 4.8 yards per carry. He also scored nine rushing touchdowns and caught 45 passes for 291 yards, adding two more touchdowns. Not to mention his special teams role, where he contributed 33 kickoff returns totaling 824 yards.

Herbert’s availability arose after the Bears signed running back D’Andre Swift to a three-year, $24 million contract and drafted University of Texas standout Roschon Johnson last year, making Herbert expendable.
The Bengals faced running back challenges after trading former star Joe Mixon to the Houston Texans for a seventh-round pick in March. They responded by signing Zack Moss to a contract through 2025 and selecting Chase Brown in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. However, Moss’s recent neck injury landed him on injured reserve, further emphasizing the need for depth in the backfield.
